The print floor
I started my working life as an apprentice lithographic printer. Years of matching ink by eye gave me an eye for colour and design that never left me, and it came in very handy when I later built websites for a living.

Next came admin, finance and helpdesk support roles at Telstra. That's where I learned that great customer service is mostly listening properly and then following through.
Then software testing management at IBM, finishing as test manager and release manager on a large ERP system for the Queensland Government. Big systems, hard deadlines, and no room for "she'll be right".
I built Captivate Websites over three years and sold it with a book of regular clients on care plans. It drew on every stop before it: the printer's eye, the service instinct and the tester's discipline.

Proud dad of two and Poppy to five and three quarter grandkids. Music has been the constant. I played drums in blues and rock bands from the age of 16, then retired from the band scene a few years back to concentrate on teaching the grandkids how to lock in a groove with the Wiggles. These days I'm learning guitar, and loving it.
